And the times, they are a changin.....
In the last 24 hours I have been made aware of at least two fraudulent accounts, several multiple accounts, and one account just vanished. In talks with a couple people, I've also received a wake up call to check out who I friend. One admitted to beating his wife in his own comments, which I abhor but was not aware of. I probably would not have friended him had I seen that. He says she has forgiven him and they have moved on...good for them, and I hope they have and that he can change the way he handles the stress of a married life. I won't unfriend him as I already have accepted and I think people deserve a second chance. I hope he means what he says when he says he's getting help with it.
Others here think that they are the gods of blogging, writing pieces talking about other bloggers as immature, fake, irrelevent, or insane. There are duplicitous writers here who complain about others complaints to Ben or about the site yet complaints fill the majority of thier work. Still others talk about themselves as a singular beacon of hope and omniscient in the world and use avatars of fictional characters capable of miracles or superman-like physical traits. The fact of the matter is that no one here can be sure of anothers history, identification, or intelligence. It's a risk we all take here in Thoughts land, and it's one that apparently has come to a head. I know from this point on I will be much more cautious about whom I friend and whom I take interest in as a fellow blogger.
It is a nasty way to find out that there are liars among us, but I think that with these wierd happenings and fraud accounts coming to light, I think we all will be a bit more aware. The times are indeed changing.

As we don’t have the traditional cues to assess veracity on the internet we are having to establish new conventions as we go along. Missteps will be made.

True, they will be.

You are no longer worth any effort on my part.

Moi?

Then there is you who can’t ignore people yet preach it , who tell others to leave if their unhappy but remain here and who lectures some people others on content and language yet ignores others because they are chummy with them.
February 25, 2013Yep the place is riddled with two faced people and some are less cleaver then others concealing it.

Good one Dan….I’m going to ignore the implications there and promote peace.
February 25, 2013danjames
Well good luck with that. You’ll just lay in the bushes waiting to lurch out at anyone that offends your idea of how people should post or anything else. But l’ll not start a range war. I’ll do what you can’t……ignore someone.
February 25, 2013danjames
Better still l’ll place you with some you can tell what and how to post……the spammers.

I’m honored Dan.

Guys, please play nice! Most of the people in here are very nice and I enjoy reading their work and blogging. This site has also become an outlet for teens who are struggling with angst. I got a couple of really “weird” friend requests. One man looked like he was a stoned serial killer and when I went to check his profile, there wasn’t any. Now, granted some people feel that posting a profile is not for them, okay, I can handle that. If you have any doubts about someone, email them through thoughts and be honest with your feelings. I may not agree with people in their point of view, but I respect their opinions. I like you, Timholzbaur and enjoy debating with you. I also enjoy danjames posts. Dan’s present avatar looks like it’s going to emit something gaseous and explode any minute which makes me laugh. I prefer to use my Highland Collie’s avitar as a tribute to her. I can’t seem to get the pixels down on any pics of me to fit there. So, let’s call a “detente” guys and play nice with one another. Please…

I have no problem with Dan, even as he seems to have taken offense somehow with my post. I didn’t mention any names, like some other poster did. I didn’t even insinuate him in my post. Anyway..people here are free to do as they please.
February 26, 2013TinkerHale
Yes, people are free to do as they will here but please, all I ask is that we be kind to one another.
February 26, 2013timholzbaur
Agreed!

Tim, pay no attention to him. YOU are a wonderful presence here and your posts are typically spot on, as this one is. Keep on keepin’ on!
February 26, 2013timholzbaur
Thank you! You’re not so bad yourself!

I like to get know someone before I friend them. So many people come and go around here.
February 26, 2013timholzbaur
I should try that! LOL

I usually accept people as they present themselves. Guess I am very naive. But then again, almost everyone I have friended has turned out to be very nice!! Maybe I am just lucky. lol
February 26, 2013timholzbaur
I have been lucky in most cases as well.

If someone writes something that you find interesting, follow or friend them. Screw it, it’s not like you need to make an actual investment in them. None of us should really be more than a stranger on a computer screen, it doesn’t matter if their stories are true or made up, if they are real people or a figment of someone’s imagination, or if their sole purpose is to make everyone believe that they are something they are not. Good for them. Did they write an interesting post? That’s all that really matters when it comes down to the brass tacks. Just my 2 cents.

In hindsight, good advice.
